XAVC is an open format that uses level 5.2 H.264/XAVC video compression standard. It can support 4K resolution at up to 60 fps, 8/10/12-bits color depth and 4:2:0/4:2:2/4:4:4 chroma subsampling. XAVC use Material Exchange Format (MXF) as the container format.
Sony has announced two CineAlta cameras that support XAVC format. They are the Sony PMW-F55 and Sony PMW-F5. Both cameras record XAVC with a color depth of 10-bits and 4:2:2 chrome subsampling. The Sony PMW-F55 can record XAVC with 4K resolution at 60fps at 300 Mbit/s and 2K resolution at 120 fps at 400 Mbit/s. The Sony PMW-F5 can record XAVC with 2K resolution at 120 fps at 400 Mbits/s.
As a proprietary format for Sony CineAlta cameras, you may find that this format is not supported by many media players and video editing applications pre-installed on your computer.
